About Peter Steiner

Originally from Austria, Peter grew up in a wine-making family with a small vineyard on the outskirts of Vienna. As a young man he moved to the US where he has worked for over 30 years in the wine and restaurant industry.

During his many years on the West Coast as a wine curator and sommelier he has developed many long-standing connections and personal relationships with wineries and wine-makers which give him a unique insight into the California wine industry. He travels to Europe regularly to visit wine regions and international trade shows.

Peter spent eleven years working at Chez Panisse restaurant in Berkeley - known as the inspiration for the style of cooking known as California Cuisine - during its formative years and he helped to develop the wine program there. He is now a wine educator and buyer for several downtown restaurants and he consults on wine lists and collections for businesses and individuals.

He lives in San Francisco with his wife – an artist whose work is exhibited across the US and hangs in homes around the world.
